Kensal Green Cemetery Open Day 2008

Friends of Kensal Green Cemetery want help from the Gothic community. Copy of an email that I received a couple of days ago.PLEASE get in touch with Artemispanic if you can help or have any suggestions. Thanks

Kensal Green Open Day 2008 Wondering if anyone would be interested to help/be involved in this. Here is the copy of an email which I received a couple of days ago. The Friends of Kensal Green Cemetery are very keen to have us all involved. At today's "brainstorming" session at Kensal Green, the 2008 Open Day was set for Saturday 5th July. We've done Sundays for the last three years, but it appears that Satudays are more popular with our visitors, especially as there is so much rail closure on Sundays these days. We want to try out a number of new events next year and to revise the format in general. To that end the standard cemetery tour (which we have done for the last fifteen years) will be replaced by four new tours, covering the north-west, north-east, south-west and south-east quadrants of the cemetery, together with more in-depth tours on Americans at Kensal Green, VC Holders at Kensal Green, Actors & Performers, and Musicians. We shall also be having people at the North Gate to welcome the visitors, issue maps and event listings, and direct private cars to the car park. The displays on other cemetery "Friends" groups will be housed around the Dissenters Chapel with the other stalls lining the route from there to the Anglican Chapel. The catacombs will, of course, be open, but most of the events will be based in the area of the Dissenters Chapel. Another area we want to feature is childrens events. We have a number of twenty-minute Flora & Fauna Trails for the little ones, and there will be face-painting based on the creatures (foxes, hedgehogs, badgers, rats, mice, cockatoos, jays) frequenting the cemetery. We we also be providing six one-size-fits-all black cloaks and top hats for boys to dress up as mutes, but we would also like to have six one-size-fits-all caped cloaks and simple bonnets for the girls. Could you help with the latter? I am already on to this! We are having mourning capes and little veils. Finally, we would like to develop the "goth" side of the Goths, rather than the "punk" Goth element. I'm sure you know what we mean. Is there anything that your vampiric Goths would like to do? Such as have a stall? Now is probably the time to start putting some feelers out via your various e-mail connections. This is where we come in! Would it be possible for Vampyre connexion and LVG to get together to have a stall, probably with a display of Goths at the cemetery photos, flyers for our various (not just vampire related) events etc and to answer general questions from the public? Dressed in our finest more traditional Victorian/pre Raphaelite clothing. Kensal Green would be very pleased if the stall could contain 19th century Gothic themes such as literature etc, they really want to highlight the more learned side of things and love of all things gothic/macabre. I will be having a stall with a display of the history of Victorian mourning attire (and a couple of pieces of original clothing on display) and also selling reproduction mourning clothes of the period and parasols, mourning handkerchiefs etc. . We would rather rescue the dignity of the former Open Days and to make it much more family-orientated. I'm sure you know what I mean. We need to move on this quite quickly as the friends are keen to get things started on the promotional side. I’ll be making up a flyer soon with the FOKG agreement to help promote it amongst our various communities. I think it all sounds rather fun and it will be great to be part of the day. Regards Artemispanic (Michelle)
